What is Homeopathy ? |
|
| |
In use for over 200 years,
homeopathy is a powerful system of alternative medicine
that uses plants and mineral substances to stimulate our
body’s natural healing processes. Homeopathy is now
widespread throughout Europe, Great Britain, Central and
South America, and India. Two hundred years of clinical
experience along with research published in such medical
journals as The Lancet,
Pediatrics, and British
Medical Journal have
confirmed homeopathy’s effectiveness for people with
a wide range of chronic conditions including asthma,
allergy, colitis, migraine, depression, arthritis, menopause,
PMS, and others.
The conventional medicines
are known to work by inhibiting or destroying the disease
process, or by substituting for physiological deficiencies
in a patient. In conventional medicine, temporary relief
may be achieved with drugs such as antihistamines, antibiotics,
hormones, antipyretics, and anti-inflammatory. However,
in the process, the problem may recur with a general deterioration
of one’s health and well being. Their toxic effects,
drug interactions, and cost often limit the conventional
drugs. In contrast, the homeopathic medicines act by stimulating
the body to react to the illness and allow natural healing
to occur. Furthermore, as the homeopathic remedies are given
in very small, dilute and non-toxic doses the incidents
of adverse reactions or drug interactions are extremely
rare in homeopathy. |

How does Homeopathy work? |
|
| |
Homeopathic medicines help to restore a
healthy balance naturally, without chemical drugs that have
side effects. Balance is restored using the body’s own
natural process, thereby enhancing the immune system. By stimulating
a return to balance, homeopathic remedies promote increased
strength, flexibility, and resistance to disease.
Homeopathy is based on the “Law
of the Similar” or the concept of “like
cures like.” This means that a substance,
which can cause particular symptoms in healthy people when
given in very small and sub-toxic doses, can be used to cure
those same symptoms when found in the sick. |
|
|
How are the remedies made? |
|
| |
The United States Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) regulates the manufacture and
sale of homeopathic medicines
Homeopathic remedies are specially prepared from natural substances,
mostly plants and minerals. Tiny amounts of these active ingredients
are highly diluted with alcohol and water until the correct
strength of medication is reached. As the substances used
in homeopathic remedies are extremely dilute, there are no
toxic or side effects. |
|
|
For what conditions can homeopathy be useful? |
|
| |
Homeopathic remedies in low strength are
used for natural and gentle treatment of colds, mild coughs,
flu, infant teething, diaper rash, bee stings, and mild bruises
and burns. These low strength doses are available over the
counter at most natural health food stores.
Homeopathy is considered very effective for non-toxic and
gentle treatment of most allergies, skin disorders and chronic
conditions. Constitutional homeopathy can be of great value
in strengthening the person’s system and restoring
balance, thereby helping to prevent a recurrence of these
allergies and chronic problems. A classical homeopath looks
at the overall “Constitution”
of the person to address allergies and chronic health problems
